New site and a few updates...
Welp... my old blog appears to have been deleted when the blog.com website went kaput. So I am starting over! I have several journal entries I have been meaning to post recently and will get those typed out and posted over the next few weeks. I will also try to find copies of my old posts to put here so the new readers can catch up and old readers can refresh!
First- just a few updates on my vocation journey...
If you are just joining us for the first time- hopefIully I can get you caught up soon, but basically I am a 31 year old woman discerning her call from God. I believe the Lord is calling me to be a religious sister and bride of Christ. I have been visiting communities and trying to decide what community God is calling me to be a part of. Throughout this journey I have met some wonderful women, some of them already sisters and some on their journey.
Now for the new news- I seemed to be closing my eyes to the grace God put right in front of me. I squeezed them shut and refused to look at any orders here in Houston. First- I thought they were all sisters that no longer wore habits and I felt that God was calling me to a more traditional order. Second- I think I just didn't want to be here. I felt that I needed to go away to be closer to God. NOT TRUE!
Over the past year- as many of you know I have been attending the Women Seeking the Road less traveled, a program with the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston for women considering religious or consecrated life. One group of sisters that attend and open their home for meetings is the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word or CCVI sisters. These sisters may sound familiar if you have ever been in a Christus Hospital as these are their hospitals but they do many other things beyond hospital care.
After my trip to Alton and Nashville, I was still struggling to find where I fit spiritually. Was I more Franciscan? More Dominican? and I found that I was really neither. I grew up in a Jesuit church. My faith formation was influenced by Ignatian Spirituality. In fact when I started my discernment journey the first thing I did was google Jesuit Nuns. I did a little research and I am extremely attracted to the idea that God is found everywhere and in everything. So to make the story short, I am now looking at the CCVIs and I have a retreat scheduled there at the end of the month. Keep your eyes out for another post here for any updates!
